Guides from Stevenage Division wowed by the UK’s top pop stars!

Pixie Lott, Olly Murs, Dionne Bromfield all perform at exclusive Girlguiding UK BIG GIG 2011

More than 30,000 music fans – including 200 Guides from Stevenage Division - descended on London’s Wembley Arena on Saturday 1 October 2011 to see some of music’s top acts perform at Girlguiding UK’s BIG GIG 2011.

Pixie Lott, Dionne Bromfield and Olly Murs were among the stars on show at the music event, which has been held exclusively for guiding members for ten years. The demand for tickets among members was so overwhelming that for the first time three concerts were put on over the weekend.

The event was hosted by super-daring children’s television presenter Helen Skelton, who was suggested by a huge number of girls on Girlguiding UK’s internet forum.

The 35th Stevenage Guides said they particularly enjoyed seeing boy band The Wanted. For many of the Guides, it was their first ever experience of a music concert and they were amazed at the volume of 10,000 screaming girls!

Katelyn Imina of the 1st Great Ashby Guides was singled out of the crowd by presenter Helen Skelton for her energetic dancing along to all the acts. The 12 year-old was rewarded for her enthusiasm with one of singer Ed Sheeran’s wristbands. 'It was exciting to be picked out and shown on the big screen! The whole BIG GIG was really good fun and it was great to see all the flashing bunny ears!'

Division Commissioner, Tina Honeysett added: ‘All the girls had such a brilliant time at the BIG GIG. It’s fantastic that Girlguiding UK put together such an enjoyable and unique ‘girls-only’ day that’s so relevant to what the girls today are listening to.’

The BIG GIG concert is for Girlguiding UK members aged 10+. Previous events have been held in Manchester’s MEN Arena and Birmingham’s NEC.
