South District Newsletter August 2011

Rainbows have been having fun at Monkey Bizness, playing with sports equipment and a 30 minute walk from their Unit meeting place to a park where they had fun playing on the equipment in the rain. They also did a joint sleepover with other Districts where Princess Cinderella from 1st Poplars did her license qualification. The sleepover was extremely well run and all the girls loved every minute of it, they even celebrated a Rainbows birthday on the sleepover!

Brownies have been working on badges over the last term, ‘road safety’ and ‘out and about’ on bikes. Brownies from all units took part in a joint Brownie camp.

The Brownies also went on a hike to raise money for unit equipment; the hike was from Broadwater to Cromer windmill which was said to be close to 10 miles! WELL DONE 36TH STEVENAGE BROWNIES (and the leaders who tagged along behind). Leaving about 9.30am and arriving at the windmill for a tour at 4pm; the girls enjoyed lunch at Walkern where they still had the energy to play at the park! A particularly big thank you to the family, on route, who allowed us the use of their house and garden, and even provided refreshments!

Brownies will be learning Street dance over the September term and may have the opportunity to perform at the Gordon Craig Theatre, a badge has been designed for those that complete the challenge!

Guides have been going on Sleepovers, doing outdoor cooking and have just come back from a camp in during the 6 week holidays. The girls loved every minute of their time on camp and one Guide made her promise there around a camp fire making a ‘smore’ which she loved eating. A big shout out to Christine for organising the “I’m a Girlguide get me out of here” challenge.

Guides have also been earning "Go for it's" and have been doing joint activities with other District units such as putting up tents in silence! Looks like Guides have been having lots of fun over the last term.
