1st Aston Brownie "teachers"
Did you know that over 100 million children will never get an education, and most of them are girls? The 1st Aston Brownies have been learning about the G8 leaders pledge to provide primary school education to every child in the world by 2015. In order for this to happen 15 million more teachers are required worldwide. The Brownies made their own cut out teachers and in July met the local MP Barbara Follett to hand them over. These were in turn handed to the Prime Minister Tony Blair as part of a UK campaign to keep the issue in the spotlight. Over the summer the Brownies received a letter back from 10 Downing Street thanking them for their work and outlining the continuing efforts that the G8 leaders are making. Further information about the UK campaign can be found at www.sendmyfriend.org.

Guide face paints
Stevenage East District held a Circus Skills workshop where a professional entertainer brought all her equipment and demonstrated several circus skills to over 60 Rainbows, Brownies and Guides. The girls then had the opportunity to have a go at juggling, diablo, stilt walking and face painting, as well as making up acrobatic routines and making their own sets of juggling balls to take home. A great time was had by all, and the Brownies gained their circus entertainer badge whilst the guides completed several clauses towards their badge
