Stevenage North News

Welcome to our third newsletter.

We Continue to think of others

In 2005 all the units have once again been involved in community work, whether it has been fundraising for other charities, helping out the local community or supporting each other. Both Guide units, two Brownie Packs and the Senior Section joined Stevenage Scouts for the Remberance Day Parade this year.
The Guides have visited the Longsdale special need school and have enjoyed meeting some of the pupils for evenings of fun and games.

Congratulations:

Two Guides from 1st Stevenage Unit this year have completed their Baden Powell Challenge, the highest award you can achieve in this section, this takes a lot of commitment and effort. Congratulations.
Four girls this year attended international trips, meeting Guides and Scouts from around the world. their destinations included Iceland and Estonia. When they returned they gave a very informative evening to the Division to tell other members about their experiences.
Next year there are no planned international trips, as we are hosting an International Jamboree at Gilwell Park in Chingford. This will be a great chance for the girls to meet a large number of international visitors without having to leave the UK! One Unit has already made plans to attend.

Sections:
This year saw the introduction of the Rainbow Sleepover oppertunity, giving our youngest section the chance to spend a night away from home. Two of our units joined
The Brownies have also been busy this year. There have been pack holidays, and many visits including a trip to the RSPB Lodge at Sandy, and a joint meeting with the cubs for a Jamboree on the Air event. The girls have also joined other Brownies in the Division at a Swimming pool party and for a trip to Activity World. In their units they have taken part in fashion shows, learning about other cultures and festivals and lots of craftwork and cookery. One unit is currently also working hard on their own pantomime!.
This year our Guides managed to get tickets to the ‘Big Gig’. A pop concert open only to Guides all over the country. The girls journeyed to the NEC in Birmingham and had a great time being entertained by loads of stars including Girls Aloud, Tony Christie, Rachel Stevens, Simon Webbe and Lee Ryan.

Both units have been very active out of doors, and have had several camps and two girls jointly won the competition to design the Division 4 seasons camping challenge badge. The units have also been working on their Go for Its, hiking, cooking and 101 other things
Our senior section unit has grown rapidly over the past year, and are currently busy rehearsing for the SS Pantomime early in the new year. They have also been involved in peer education, teaching other members of the movement about important subjects such as Refugees and Eating Disorders. They also find time to have a lot of fun and laughter. Ask your leaders for information about this group, which is open to girls aged 14 – 25.

Further details will follow.
